About Barbara
I am a certified coach and the principal of Forward Motion Coaching. Prior to coaching I worked for over 20 years in business, most recently as Vice President of Marketing and Sales for a privately held firm.
During my career, I've interviewed, managed and promoted people at all levels, from entry level administrative personnel to department directors with P&L responsibility. I've worked at both large and small companies, and understand the "ins and outs" of negotiating different work cultures as well as the ingredients that lead to career success.
Many people with Asperger’s Syndrome are not working up to their full potential and many have been demoted or let go because of "people issues." Coaching has the potential to enhance an individual's performance through customized, one-on-one support and the development of specific success strategies.
In addition to working with private clients I am committed to educating employers about how to utilize the talents of individuals with Asperger’s and NLD. Efforts in this area include Webinars and workshops for human resources professionals and hiring managers, publication of The Employer’s Guide to Asperger’s Syndrome, and an article in Insights, the magazine of the Northeast Human Resources Association. Other activities include speaking engagements at the AANE Vermont Conference, Community Resources for People with Autism, support groups and special education parent advisory committee meetings.
I earned a graduate certificate in Professional Executive Coaching from the Massachusetts School of Professional Psychology and am certified by the Institute for Professional Empowerment Coaching, which is accredited by the International Coach Federation.
Continuing education includes both the Training and Advanced Training for Group Instruction in Social Communication workshops by Elsa Abele, The Neuropsychology of Asperger Syndrome workshop by Gail M. Grodzinsky, Ph.D., AANE Conferences, Autism Spectrum Disorders conference (Harvard Medical School Department of Continuing Education), and other educational events about learning disorders as well as business management topics.
